Description: Parachute Music Festival is the biggest music event in the southern hemisphere. More than 20,000 people gather in one place, living in tents, to hear their favourite bands. A gathering of thousands converge onto a farmer's property to pitch their tents and prepare for an experience that is talked about for the rest of the year. Parachute Festival Extreme is about music. Christian music to be exact.
The crowds that come are treated to a long weekend of high volume, high energy and highly known songs by musicians from around the world. The biggest names in the Christian music industry find their way to Parachute at least once, with many of them coming back again and again. It is a popular place.
Each day there is six stages pumping out music from morning until evening and then right into the night. You cannot sleep in this din, but who would want to, with top bands such as Toby Mac, Out of Eden, Tree63, Andy Hunter, Superchick, Pilar, and more all playing just yards from your tent.
Once you have entered the gates there is nothing more to pay. Of course many people will find the discounted merchandise, ice cold drinks and pre-cooked foods too much to resist, but with careful planning there need not be any further expenses.
A weekend full of concerts, all backed up one against the other. Playing in the morning and right into the night, only to start again the next morning. It is no wonder more than 20,000 people turned up for Parachute 2003.
But there was more than just bands. Teaching, kids programs, information booths on everything from Missionary Societies to banking and training institutes, and drama and dance programs going on simultaneously, there was something for everyone virtually all of the time.
